Yoga is a combination of physical exercises (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama) and simple meditation (consciously directing your attention).
The physical exercises create more stability as well as more flexibility and lightness in the body.
These can be flowing, powerful sequences of asanas, but also some that are held for longer. This strengthens the deep postural muscles of the body and at the same time we stretch by using our own strength. Consciously directing the breath expands our breathing capacity and can also help us to become calmer and clearer and reduce stress. In addition to precise body alignment and inner muscle activity, there is plenty of room for close observation and greater awareness of your own body. Consciously letting go and relaxing is also part of yoga, for more balance on a physical and mental level.
